How to Become a GSGSO Member

All graduate students are automatically members of GSGSO upon admission to graduate school for the Grain Science & Industry program. Membership is completely free, and all Grain Science graduate students are eligible to receive the optional GSGSO Defense Support (a spread of beverage and food items) at the time of their research defense.

Active Member Requirements

Additional benefits are available to students who maintain an “Active Membership” status, which requires students to:

  • Attend the GSGSO Monthly Meetings
  • Earn points for participating in GSGSO activities throughout the year
  • Active members become eligible for officer positions, monthly travel awards, and may redeem their participation points for GSGSO pridewear like t-shirts, jackets, and GSGSO items like notebooks, mugs, pens, and more.

2022-2023 GSGSO Monthly Meeting Schedule

Grain Science graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend each monthly meeting in order to stay informed about upcoming events and opportunities. GSGSO meetings also provide students a chance to connect with each other, share ideas, and engage in discussion on current topics as they relate to graduate student life and research. All GSGSO monthly meetings include free dinner for students and faculty who attend, catered by local Manhattan businesses.
