Philanthropy & Fundraising
The GSGSO prides itself on making positive impacts on the lives of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Every year, GSGSO coordinates a philanthropic event to give back to the Manhattan community and raise awareness about opportunities to help those in need. Past events have included Oxfam Hunger Banquets, food drives for KSU’s Cat’s Cupboard, the Salvation Army's Angel Tree, and volunteering at the Flint Hills Breadbasket. Additionally, the GSGSO raises money during its Football Car Parking fundraiser in the Fall. The funds raised are used to support GSGSO for activities, scholarships, professional development seminars, and many more.
Professional Development
GSGSO provides opportunities for professional development of students in a variety of ways, including advertising and introducing speakers for the Grain Science Seminar Fall and Spring Series, coordinating food and beverages for graduate student defenses, volunteering for KSU’s annual Open House event, and more. Each year, GSGSO also hosts professional development events, such as Etiquette Dinners and special-topic seminars.
Monthly Socials
Various social activities are organized by the GSGSO to encourage students to build meaningful relationships with their fellow students. Past events have included hiking on the KonzaPrairie, picnics, barbecues, holiday parties, bowling at the KSU Student Union, rock wall climbing at the KSU Recreation Center, escape rooms, and much more.
