Bio Brief

Diego Lopez joined the Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University in August, 2025 as an Assistant Professor specializing in Feed Technologies and Quality. His research focuses on the impact of feed processing and technology implementation on the nutritional value of complete feeds and individual feed ingredients. His additional areas of interest include feed ingredient evaluation and the use of animal models to assess digestibility coefficients in monogastric species, as well as protein quality in human food.

He earned his Ph.D. in Grain Science from Kansas State University where he developed the program of digestibility of swine, while conducting research to determine the effect of feed processing and technologies on the digestibility of energy and nutrients. He also holds a master's degree in Monogastric Nutrition from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a bachelor's in animal science from National University of Colombia. His research has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Animal Science, Animal Feed Science and Technology, Animal Bioscience, and Translational Animal Science.
