Bio Brief

Dr. Hulya Dogan joined the department in 2006 and has since built a distinguished career in teaching, research, and academic leadership. Her teaching and research programs focus on grain and food processing, flour milling, cereal chemistry, food engineering, dough rheology, and the functional properties of grain-based ingredients and foods. Dr. Dogan’s research integrates principles of food engineering, material science, and cereal chemistry to better understand the physical, chemical, and structural transformations that occur during grain processing and their impact on ingredient functionality and product quality.

Dr. Dogan has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, invited presentations, while mentoring graduate students, visiting scientists, and industry fellows. She has secured competitive research funding supporting advancements in grain processing and cereal-based food systems. In addition to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, Dr. Dogan has played a key leadership role helping shape the future of grain and food science education, research, and industry engagement. She previously served as the department’s Undergraduate Program Chair and Teaching Coordinator for more than a decade, leading curriculum development and academic initiatives that have strengthened grain science and food science education at Kansas State University.

Dr. Dogan has received numerous honors recognizing her contributions to teaching and professional service, including the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Educator Award, the Gamma Sigma Delta Outstanding Teacher Award, a Fulbright fellowship, multiple College of Agriculture Teaching Excellence recognitions. She has also served on national and international grant review panels and advisory committees.
