Dr. Guojun Wu joins Kansas State University’s Department of Grain and Food Science as an assistant professor specializing in microbiome science, with a focus on the ecological and functional dynamics of gut microbiota and their role in human health. His research bridges microbiology, nutrition, and computational biology, using omics data to investigate interactions among the gut microbiome, diet, and host health.

Dr. Wu earned his doctorate in microbiology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and previously served as an assistant research professor and co-director of the Rutgers Center for Microbiome Analysis at Rutgers University. He has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Cell and Science, and holds an h-index of 22 with more than 4,500 citations. His work introduced the concept of “two competing guilds” as core microbiome signatures, offering new insights into microbiome-targeted health management.

Dr. Wu has contributed extensively to academic service, serving as a guest editor for journals such as Nutrients, Frontiers in Endocrinology, and Frontiers in Immunology, and as an invited editor for mBio. He has reviewed manuscripts for more than a dozen journals, including Cell Metabolism, Microbiome, The ISME Journal, and Gut Microbes, and has served as a grant reviewer.

At K-State, Dr. Wu looks forward to advancing microbiome applications in grain science and human health through collaborative research and innovation.
