Dr. Xiuzhi Susan Sun is a University Distinguished Professor of Kansas State University (KSU). Dr. Sun is the founder of the Biomaterials and Technology Lab at KSU. She also holds Adjunct Professor Position in the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University, School of Medicine. Dr. Sun is interested in biomaterials design, synthesis, and manufacturing, specialized in protein and lipids structure and functional properties at monomers and polymers levels for environmental and biomedical applications, particularly protein hydrogels design and production, biobased adhesives, resins, coatings. Dr. Sun published198 SCI referee articles and holds 15 patents with 4 patents pending. She has commercialized some of her patented technologies. Dr. Sun is a founder of the PepGel LLC and PG BioTech LLC companies with the purpose of improving human and animal health through her novel biomaterial discoveries. Dr. Sun is a Fellow of National Academy of Inventors; Fellow of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers; recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Bioenvironmental Polymer Society; Higuchi Research Achievement Award – Applied Science. Dr. Sun earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Illinois, Urbana, IL. USA.
