General Information for Graduate Students
Prospective Graduate Students
The Department of Grain Science & Industry at Kansas State University has an internationally recognized graduate program, leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Grain Science. A wide variety of opportunities for graduate study are offered in areas of both applied and basic research.

The Departmental Graduate Program Committee has established the following course requirements for admission to the Masters and Doctorate programs.
- Mathematics, including College Algebra, Calculus and Statistics
- Chemistry, including Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry
- Biological Sciences
(The Graduate Program Committee reserves the right to waive these requirements or the graduate student’s advisor may request students to take pre-requisite courses upon entry to fulfill the requirements.)

Material should be to the graduate program by:
- January 1 for fall (August) enrollment
- August 1 for spring (January) enrollment
- December 1 for summer (June) enrollment
Admission to the program is highly competitive, PLEASE APPLY EARLY!
Application Documents for All Students
♦ Please complete an application through the graduate school website. Please follow the instructions carefully and upload all materials to the application website
For domestic students, $50 application fee, can be paid online with a credit card or by check or money order payable to Kansas State University Graduate School.
For international students, $75 application fee, can be paid online with a credit card or by check or money order payable to Kansas State University Graduate School (checks must be drawn on U.S. banks).
INTERNATIONAL students the following application documents are also required:
♦ Original transcript(s)
Please provide a copy of original transcripts written in your language and one translated into English for all grades, from all colleges and universities you have attended.
An official report of TOEFL or IELTS score is required, or evidence of a degree from a U.S. university. The Grain Science Graduate Program Committee requires a minimum TOEFL score of 90, and a minimum score of 7 on the IELTS. We give preference to students with higher TOEFL scores and academic records.
♦ Affidavit of Financial Support: Complete and sign all appropriate sections of this form and return with needed documentation to show support. An affidavit of financial support can not be more than nine months old. KSU and Grain Science require this financial statement. It acts as your proof to the United States Immigration Service that you have adequate financial resources to live in the United States during your years of study.
