Research interests include:

  • Understanding and improving the quality of wheat, flour and baked products
  • Development of testing methods to measure wheat and flour quality
Wheat Quality Lab Director

The Kansas Wheat Quality Lab (WQL) provides Kansas wheat breeders, producers and researchers with timely quality data that will augment their selection of promising experimental wheat varieties. Additionally, the lab assists in wheat marketing efforts by Kansas Wheat, USWA, WQC, KSU Extension, IGP and other regional wheat associations for domestic and export customers. The Wheat Quality Lab is the principal testing and marketing effort funded by Kansas Wheat. Research and outreach activities focus on developing new quality evaluation methods, improving existing wheat testing methods and developing hard wheat promotional material. In addition, collaborative projects are conducted with breeders or agronomists to evaluate environmental, disease and pest infestation effects on wheat quality. Collaborative research projects on wheat and flour quality are also conducted with faculty and students in the Departments of Agronomy and Grain Science.
