Various social activities are organized by the GSGSO. Past events have included a day at the pool, picnics, monthly coffee hours, a Halloween party, a Christmas party, participating in the KSU ropes course, an annual tailgate, bowling, ice skating, and an end of the year party.
In addition to social activities, we also provide opportunities to students for professional development. In 2008, the first Grain Science Graduate Student Annual Symposium was successfully coordinated and run by graduate students. Students were allowed to share their up-to-date research within the department. Also, students were able to practice presentation skills and get feedback from both students and faculty members.
The GSGSO prides itself on impacting contributing towards making positive impacts on the lives of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Each Holiday season, the GSGSO participates in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree by adopting and donating gifts/clothing to two children in need. Other past events including volunteering at the Flint Hills Breadbasket and food packaging.
Every fall, the GSGSO raises money during its annual football car parking fundraiser. Graduate students typically park ~500 cars during the first home football game of the year. The money raised is used to support the GSGSO for: activities, scholarships, professional development seminars, social events, and many more.
